Default first electrical problem

When the bike warms up a bit, it seems like the spark is delayed, it seems that it stays at one cylinder, it puts out black smoke from an exhaust. check that both manifolds were hot. Since I didn't find the problem, everything indicated that I had a problem with the ignition, I changed it and put a dyna 2,000 on it, talking to people they told me that with that the problem would be solved and that it would not be necessary to put the cdi on it. The problem remains the same and I bought a 2-hand cdi as shown in the photos but I don't know how to connect it. If any of you would please guide me on how to connect it, I appreciate it.

Who is the manufacturer of that unit? Perhaps going online and make an inquiry or see if they have an install procedure?

If you bought the Dyna 2000 unit that replaces your ignition module in the timing cone, you don't need that extra module. On my 1991, I bought the Dyna 2000i external module which basically plugs in and replaces that ignition module in your pictures. Did you originally have a module that looked like that under the triangle cover?

Or, was your original module all contained within the timing nosecone? You need one or the other, not both.

You can find wiring diagrams on the HD website for your bike, I suggest you consult it before trying to connect anything.

John

good evening
Originally this bike has a cdi like the one in the photo installed under the seat, I also thought the same thing that having mounted a dyna 2000 ignition I didn't need it, so I don't understand why that makes me so strange. I'm going to check all the wiring on the bike. I just have to try another coil. right now the bike is like this
thank you all very much for answering

Your profile says you have a 1998 model. Are you sure it's a 1998 model? Because the stock configuration for 1998 was a nosecone ignition.

What you are showing is an external Ignition Control Module (ICM), which depends on a Cam Position Sensor (CPS) in the nosecone to feed it proper signals for TDC. The factory last used that setup in 1997.

Check your VIN# - Confirm whether you have a 1996/97 or a 1998 model.
See: http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/s...-01a#vin_info3

In one photo, it looks like you have the 8-pin ICM connector on the wiring harness (near/under the seat - rearward from the battery). If that is stock, it would not be a 1998 model.

Here's the Sportsterpedia section on stock ignition modules:
http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/t...k:evo:engctl01

Here's a description of the Cam Position Sensor:
http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/t...osition_sensor

Do open the nosecone to examine the CPS. Sometimes they fail & cause spurious trigger signals to the ICM which causes improper sparking signals to the coil.

Before buying a new coil, you might want to test the one you have:

So how did you determine it was a bad Ignition Unit vs the coil or Cam Sensor? If the, I'm assuming new, Dyna 2000 didn't work, why replace it with another used OEM unit . . . with the connectors cut off? That's 5 steps forward and 10 steps back. I suggest you go back and diagnose the problem correctly. Here's a hint - Check the coil and cam sensor. The Factory Service Manual gives ya all the useful information on them. The wire harness is not the problem.

Would be interesting to know just how often each of the mentioned components actually fail in the real world.

Check the key switch. I had similar problems and found out that the key switch was bad. Try to bypass it with a wire.
