Looking at the 2013 HD Parts and accessory catalog I see this on the 5-micron filter- (online they don't show the oil filters separately anymore, but the dealers have them)

SuperPremium5™ Oil Filters – 5 micron
Utilizing advances in synthetic media technology, the
SuperPremium5™ Oil Filters are Tested-Certified to provide
filtration to retain dust, soot and other solid matter with low
internal pressure drop. Filter also includes internal pressure
relief and anti-drain back valves.
Fits ’99-later Twin Cam and Evolution® models (except
’08-later XR models)
, and can be used as an upgrade
for any motorcycle that requires Oil Filter P/N 63796-77A,
63805-80A
, 63812-90 or 63813-90.

Harley also shows the 5-micron filter in the "Oil Change Kits" for the Sportster (Except 08-13 XR models).

"This part fits your 2013 Sportster 1200 Custom."

I have heard not to run the 5 micron filter on the XL. Can't remember where-something about it being too restrictive for the oil flow

I have run both 5, 20 micron filters on my sportsters and never had a problem

And as that is a factory part I am sure it's fine

The whole oil/filter deal is just kinda expensive, nothing wrong with syn3 except the price-just my opinion

You're right on the edge of an oil thread with those 5 microns filter,

20W50 no problem but straight 60 oil, oups.

first, oil pressure is a function of engine restriction. second, the oil pump has a range higher than that. the filter micron rating while important is usually not a factor unless the mfg says so. even a 20 micron will become a 5 micron over time, the media works by impaction so as the media fills, traps smaller particles until the relief open. this setting is important and if too high, will starve the engine for oil. a tighter media usually has more surface area to compensate.

IF, the oil pump had an oil pressure relief this would be true but only a few older bikes had one. With no oil pressure relief you have the old immovable object vs the irresistible force conundrum. The oil pump is gonna force oil thru the filter.

The Super Premium 5 Filter also includes an internal pressure relief that works off the difference in pressure between the outside and inside of the filter media.

Yes, many (most?) oil filters have an internal relief that allows oil to bypass the filter media if there's enough pressure differential. BUT, that doesn't "starve the engine for oil", it just means the oil isn't all being filtered.

we were talking about the filter, no one mentioned engine oil pump relief.
that relieves itself before the filter.
as the media plugs, it will filter down smaller and smaller until resistance causes the by-pass to open.

Yes, but that won't "starve the engine for oil".
