Default 2001 Cyclone: yea or nay?

There's a 2001 Cyclone with about 6,000 miles on it a couple of hours away. The seller is asking $5,000, which I think is high, but then again, I paid that for my 2002 883R a few years ago. Then again, it had barely been broken in.

He bought it two years ago, so has no service records, but will sell it certified.

It has a Forcewinder air cleaner on it, not sure which one, but I've read on this forum that can be an issue. If I've read right, most of the recall issues happened before the 2001 model.

I can't justify owning two bikes (no garage) so if I do pull the trigger, the Sportster will have be off the road while I see if I like the Buell that much better.

I got lucky with a 20-year-old Harley once. Super reliable. Am I pushing my luck with a 20-year-old Buell? And no, I'm not expecting much help from the dealer.

What's a reasonable price? There's a local '97 Thunderbolt that's been on the market a couple of years, he's asking $6,000.

Long post. Lotsa questions. Thanks.

Check out Badweb for more Buell info. It is an old forum without a lot of activity, but has a WEALTH of information.

I do think 5000 is high, unless there is something exceptional about it. The tube Buells are very cool.

Reasonable I'd say a 2001 will have all the upgrades IE primary shoe, gear shift linkage, rev counter and being a carb model won't have the efi headaches either

Domestic M2's came from the factory with "D" cams, same as all the XL883's and XL1200's of the day (except the S).

International M2's came from the factory with "B" cams, aka SE .497 cams, aka N4's. Most sets are not marked with B's, though, they're marked 15-1/2/3/4
