Like the 2 into 1.
No crossover needed and less muffler weight.

I still have people trying to tell me two separate pipes are the best way to make power.

Which explains why all the Formula 1 teams do that.

OOOOPPSS !

No doubt about it, I gotta get a new hat !

I would suggest that in a turbocharged engine that is a great idea, but in F1 it is much more about fitting all of those pipes into a tiny crowded space. If you look carefully, the pipes are gathered and aimed at the rear over the top of the compartment. You get thrust from this design just like the Japanese did with the Zero. It was not an inconsequential item. In a HD situation, 2 into 1 is great for torque, but does this engine need torque?

NO engine needs torque.

Unless you want to accelerate. Or even move forwards.

When Honda fours first came out in 1969 it took racers here about a month to work out how t make "extractors" for them.

It just became a given when you bought a four cylinder Japanese bike you would go looking for a set of "Extractors" as a first port of call.
One of the guys who was extremely dubious about 2 into 1's on his Harley was Bruce marston.

But I talked him into it and with back to back dyno runs the engine picked up power (around 5 HP) right through the entire rev range.

He refused to trash the single pipes but I never saw them re-fitted to the engine.

Single pipes do work but only over a very tiny rpm range.

A (proper) 2:1 pipe raises the torque curve on the lower end, it mostly eliminates the 3000rpm dip, and does not loose any on the top end.

I think twin mufflers perform similar to 2:1 except for the low end torque.

It's not a stand alone magic piece but a large piece of the puzzle.
