I stopped by dealer my BT was bought from thinking I might get into some thing lighter and nimble as I've aged, 1200 Sport specifically. Sales guy wouldn't even talk about a used Sport (claimed they didn't have any-though their web site said different), just wanted to sell new, offered $11K for my immaculate 2015 Limited, all the bells, V&H Fuel Pak, new tires, 2 years left on factory warranty. Wouldn't even haggle a little bit. He just couldn't understand why I would want to "downgrade" (his words) to a Sporty. Didn't bother to tell him about the 3 IH in the garage. They are now nothing more than department stores selling Tee shirts with an occasional motorcycle sale.

A dealership isnt the place to get a good buy on a used vehicle of any kind imo. Especially an HD and a Sporty at that.
I don't buy new so I have very little use for a dealership when buying. Not that they're all bad but the nature of the business, how they acquired the used bikes (trade ins), often dictate a higher price than a private party motivated by the necessity to sell often times. Not to mention you will get a much better idea of the history of the bike from the person who actually gave it that history. This is how I see it anyway.

Agreed, I'd a considered a new one if I hadn't been insulted with scrap price....I know they need to turn a profit but their numbers didn't line up. Offered me $11K, had comparable used BTs on the floor for $18K & $19K.
It's for sale now, I'll find a used 1200 and drop a few shekels back in my pocket

Thanks for the feedback guys. Moreso than having a bad sales experience with their current lineup, i'm mostly curious how this is going to translate to their new round of bikes, as Harley is making a massive shift in their product. Outside of that, a couple of notes on responses on here:

-Sounds like my experience is far from isolated. I've been to a number of harley (and non-harley) dealerships in the past 12 months and I still believe they are out of touch. I had a much better experience at places that sell multiple brands of bikes

-Looking at used model pricing, I know they have expenses and have to keep the doors open, but that only means that customers will look elsewhere (i.e. not my problem)

-Holy Shit, I cross-posted this on HDForums and it got closed, those guys got maaaaaad that I said "old white guys". I won't be visiting that forum again

The dealerships need to get away from the illusion that it is 1992 and it will take a year for the sportster that you order to arrive. Last time I checked the motor company stock was going down the tank because millennials never saw Easy Rider and the romance of owning a HD is not there.

When I ordered mine in August 1990 it took 4 months to be delivered to the dealership.

1990 was the beginning of the fever. By 1992 I ordered a xl from Linden dealership on route 1&9. One year for delivery.

By 1999 the fever had begun to heal for sportster because I was able to get a floor model. The big twins were still long orders until 2003.

My ex walked into a dealership with no $$, no job & crappy credit, rode a brand new 2002 1200C out the door. In 2002
