no.it appears your 1972 long frame neck casting was swapped out for a-58 short frame neck casting.a front end collision is a likely reason for this.your bike has a later model dual disc front end on it iirc?

Yes you can shut it off with the key.

Not the same as the ignition key.
I think it is a file cabinet key.
Get the number off the lock cylinder.

Ok thanks for the help I have no experience with a mag setup. Right now I turn the ignition switch on to start it
But then have to push a button on the right switch pod to kill it. Is this typical?

Try to start it with the ign key off. That may just be the disconnect for the battery for the lighting circuit.

Bruce, maybe this will help demystify the neck casting question. This pic is from my original '71 xlch long frame. I hope it is clear enough to show that neck casting # 47594-58 was being used in 1971 on long frames.

I don't have an original short frame in hand to do an A) vs B) comparison..... but I assume it's reasonable to conclude the factory was using neck casting # 47594-58 on both short & long frames back in the day.
