Canadian Purchases
Where is the best place to order from? I have the catalogs from J&P and know what I want. I was wondering whether there was a canadian alternative?

Your Harley dealer can order out of the Custom Chrome and Drag Specialties catalogs.

In my experience, try and purchase directly from the manufacturer.
Also, make sure that they do not send your purchase to Canada via UPS. UPS will charge you a HUGE brokerage fee. If the item is sent via USPS, the maximum brokerage fee chargeable is $5.00.
I have been charged $65.00 brokerage on a $200.00 item when it was delivered through UPS.

Just to be clear, UPS United Parcel Service, USPS, United States Postal Service, for some reason it was confusing to me.

I've ordered a couple items from International Motorsports in BC, they are reasonable but you still can't beat the prices from the US suppliers, especially with the dollar at par. I usually search on eBay and always go with USPS for shipping. I rarely get charged duty, tax or brokerage. My Mustang seat cost almost $400 shipped to my door, with no brokerage or tax added (from GM Cycle.) Same with my detacheable sideplates and sissybar ...that was from House of Harley in Milwaukee. USPS is way cheaper and faster than Canada post. The added benefit of eBay and PayPal is buyer protection. Use your credit card with PayPal and you have an extra layer of protection, if the item doesn't ship in a reasonable amount of time you can request a charge-back and your money is safe. I like to 'Buy Canadian' when the choice exists, but times are tight and I don't make a whole lot of disposable income anymore.
I don't get it ...the dollar has been at par for a couple years now and we are still getting jacked! (case in point: price of gas)

If you're near Ottawa, I use https://www.dreamcycles.net/index.asp They have good prices, great service, and I've been buying through them for a few years now.

One of the biggest things for me shopping local is if i'm going to be taking up the shop's time. IE if i'm making them answer my questions and try stuff on for example...i'm buying from them. Using them and then buying online is lame in my books. I do buy stuff online, but that's without having taken anyone's time.
