Default Keihin butterfly carb rebuild videos

I just made four videos about rebuilding the Keihin butterfly (pre-CV) carburetor.

#1 Tips and tricks.

#2 Disassembly and cleaning.

#3 Assembly and testing.

#4 Testing and start-up.

And yeah, having an air-leak on the bike when I just warned people about that was pretty embarrassing. Warts and all, better to see what it took to get the bike running than pretend everything went peachy.

I turned off comments in the videos, I would rather see them here with true Ironhead aficionados. If its OK with Mike, I will put the link to this thread in the YouTube description box.

It took a year to get the cameras and studio stuff put together. I have many more videos coming now that I have the YouTube channel. It sure takes a long time to make videos compared to articles, even articles with pictures.

Happy new year to all, I hope it finds you with the rubber side down.

Kudos -- I watched a few minutes of each video --

You have a great presentation - The lighting is good - The overhead camera shots work very well - No annoying background music...

I don't have a butterfly carb to utilize your info, but I think you did a great job of creating very watchable & informative videos...

Maybe we can include some of your info into the Sportsterpedia...

Thanks guys, I hope to do a lot more this year. and yeah, its open-sport.org, so feel free to use anything on Sportsterpedia. I just was checking it out earlier-- I really love it. The videos are in HD, so you can take screen-shots for any pictures.

I chuckled when you said no annoying music. I used to put music under videos when I made tech vids, but I decided it was better to have the quiet, even if it makes it a little harder to cover up mistakes.

Are all diaphragms ribbed for your pleasure? Haha!

Nicely done, very informative, you can tell you put a lot of time into this.

I took the S&S off my daily rider for my shovester project so I've been debating on what to replace it with. I think you convinced me to buy an old butterfly so I can utilize this information. Thank you!

Thanks to both of you. I probably "overproduced" these first four, but I wanted to learn how to deal with multiple cameras and other video tricks. I think the next ones will be short and sweet.

I am going to sell at least a few of those carbs I have sitting on the desk. I don't have any rebuild kits, so I would have to sell them "as-is". At least they are clean, but that last video showed that at least one still had a plugged passage to the accelerator squirter. I learned a lot messing with this job.

You should be able to find a "take-off" Keihin pretty easily. Do note that they got more complicated after 1979, and they capped the idle mixture screw. You can pry the cap off, but then you need a little screwdriver to get into the boss and adjust the needle. I like these early ones.

Thanks for sharing your videos
I personally appreciate the 'production' process. It does take up some time but the quality of help you generate is greatly increased when one can clearly see what is being demonstrated without fuzz, buzz and music.
