In a 10:1 stock cammed street motor? He doesn't even need anything beyond 91 premium pump gas unless he's got some shit he's not telling us.

People overthink shit and get all in a tizzy over nothing. It's not like he's building a monster race motor.

I totally agree. Just responding to what is written. That's a damn fine '72 you have.

I would run premium 91-93 around here. That little bit extra will not hurt anything..

Thanks to the Calculator link provided by IXLRELAX, the following figures answer my question.

9.99:1 Compression
9.35:1 Corrected
200 PSI Cranking

Should be safe with 91 Octane
Will use 93 whenever I can find it.

No more questions for a while.
Just happy to have the answers..
Found some sites that said you need upwards of 100 Octane if you are running 10:1 pistons and I knew that was not right.
Probably in the UK

Thanks man. She's been a real bear to me given my heavy work schedule. Wanted one for too long to be disappointed, though.

And I gotta say, AvGas can be used in lieu of race gas, however the characteristics (in my experience) don't make it worth the cost saving to me. Just look at the specific gravity of 100LL vs C10. Pretty big difference. Combined with the fact if you're caught running dyed gas you can wipe away any savings for pretty much ever.

If you really ask me, living in Ohio, I build to suit E85 (when tested, anywhere from 70-89). It's about $1.89/gal and is somewhere in the range of 105AKI. Cheapest race gas you can find. I've seen 400hp motors gain 150hp with an E85 tune. Screw messing with the lead and race gas barrels. I can fill up E85 at the local station.

Just an observation I made, put a load of 100LL in bike. took it out and made a few passes. Noticed a slight black soot inside pipes. replaced mufflers with 1 3/4" slip on pipes, so they were clean, didn't see it with pump gas. I figured with lighter specific gravity she would have run leaner. Oh well! Smokey Yunick wrote an article for Circle Track about gasoline a million years ago. Talk about making my mind NUMB. Met him once, he told me to throw the magazine in the trash, that VP and everyone changed their formulas.

Lots of stories about Smokey Yunick.
One of the greats for sure.
