Default Those little ways to personalize your bike...

I've had this 883r for about a month now, I mainly bought it as a winter project. I like to make them my own, but not in a hack/slash way. These are a few of the little mods I've done so far. Most are pretty inexpensive.

beer cap on the triple tree bolt: Free (or cost of one beer) The cap can be tapped on and is a perfect fit.

I had a bottle opener laying around and I removed the big chrome bell the PO had added, from the side of the bike, so why not?

Paracord wrap : I used orange paracord to wrap the upper forks. The paracord was 1$.

License plate skidplate- I had to replace my license plate this year because it was 10 years old. I had been thinking about getting a skid plate to go with my dirtbike motif ( I replaced the tires with knobbies) . So I thought I'd try mocking up one with a license plate. All of the ones available for purchase are waaaay too expensive for what they are ( a bent piece of aluminum with some holes drilled in it. After putting it on, I kind of dig the look. It would be good for blocking the rocks that might get kicked up at the frame.

I'm sure I'll have more to share as I go. What are your little touches that make your bike, yours?

I made a heel toe shifter for my 06 883c. Also made a puke can and bracket for my breather relocate. Hated the oily air filter. Refused to use the factory bracket for the WindVest screen. Built a ballvalve oil bag drain to replace the plastic plug and hoseclamp. Swapped out the spoked 21” rim for a stock 19” mag. Found a NOS Rich Sunglow Blue paint kit for the oil tank and battery cover. And found a paint matched air filter cover. Guess I could get the belt cover repainted to match the Sunglow Blue factory paint.

Here's a picture of my bike:

I bought KT (1994 XLH) as a wreck & rebuilt it with selected parts (both aftermarket & take-offs from other model Sportsters) ...

There are at least 5 obvious things that I personalized that you can see in this picture:

1) The most prominent thing I did was to have the rockerboxes powdercoated in Red, White & Blue...

2) I used a Ness front fender & had it painted to follow the R/W/B theme...

3) I used a Ness bottom-mount headlight

4) I designed & built the speedo housing from a BT exhaust tip...

5) I built my own 'big sucker' air cleaner & used a CD for decoration...

I guess the rear fender (aftermarket) would be considered a personalized modification (although I didn't modify it) - I like the duck-tail look...

The front wheel is also not stock - it's a Thunderstar wheel from HD...

The tank is from a '97 1200 Custom ( but my bike is a 1200-upgraded engine so I guess that fits ) ...

More details can be found by clicking the link in my signature...

Thank-you for calling the rear fender a "duck tail". There seem to be a lot of younger guys that like to call them "bob tails". I always thought a "bob tail" was a fender that was cut significantly shorter. You know "Bobbed". The RWB really stands out, Nice.

Well, to be honest, it's called a SportBob Fender from the seller... So I understand their calling it that - but I'm with you - I prefer to call it a duck-tail since that is very descriptive of exactly how it is a shortened fender...

Thanks - I wasn't sure they would work out when I did it in '99 after buying the wreck - but when I saw how they looked on the bike in 2013 when it went together, I was very pleased - Never seen anyone else do it - But I get many positive comments...

I put the beer cap(Blue Moon) over the choke knob and put a Marlin clock where your cap currently is.
