The pdf link in post #13 didn't work for me.

The links in post #21 no longer work. The website still seems to be up but the blog section returns an error.

Bumping this up to refresh, everybody needs this information. How many times have you heard”I didn’t see him”, this explains it, very good information.

When driving a car, you're just not looking for motorcyclists, just like you're not looking for kids playing in the streets. Since most cars have daytime running headlights, you're looking for lights. Motorcycles lost a big advantage when governments mandated DRLs for most vehicles. When that driver is looking straight at you, he's looking for the dual headlights behind you. Ride like no-one sees you!

I assume you ride a bike and I find it strange that you would make that statement for the rest of us.

If that is the way you drive your car then you are part of the problem and should change your driving style to spend just another few seconds looking both ways again before exiting a side road.

The links for me still do not work in post #21 or the link in #13.

I've fixed the link, to John Sullivan's original article, in post 13.

I don't think I can do anything about the links in post 21; the target blog posts seem to have disappeared.

The fighter pilots guide was a good read thank you.

When I was learning to drive the instructor always told me to turn my head to physically look and not glance.

Andy.

Most cage drivers are exactly like that and even worse since some of them are constantly pissed that we are there at all.

I used to shoot archery with a guy like that. Rode with him in his cage to a couple of events, and he went into instant road rage when bikes would blow by between lanes. The clown never saw or heard them coming (I did and I wasn't even behind the wheel). Needless to say, (but you know I'm gonna say it anyway), I don't ride with him anywhere and I don't shoot with him when I get there either. Life is too short to suffer idiots with an attitude. But keep in mind, those idiots have the ability to make life even shorter.

If life gets really tough, let me know and I will loan you my wife. She has been known to punch fenders when idiots try to squeeze us out between lanes. (It's legal here by the way, and it should be legal everywhere). I mean splitting lanes is legal, punching fenders may be a little in the gray area side of things, but that's my wifey, and I think I'll keep her. She's a lot like that Indian gal in the old Clint Eastwood movie that took a rifle butt to the head for him.

You could just ride safe, but life is too short for that too.

You took my statement out of context. I couldn't tell you how many miles I have driving a "cage" but that's been since 1972. After adding up all the miles, I've put on all my bikes, since 1970, I have about a half million miles on my skinny ass.
My statement about "you're just not looking for motorcyclists" comes from all the people I've talked to, over the years. When I drive I'm "watching traffic" that includes anything that comes out in the streets. I've never hit a motorcyclist, pedestrian, or domestic pet. And "Close" only counts in Hand-grenades.

Default Not seen, or don't care.

In the mid 70's, after having ridden bikes for about 7 years, I came to the realization that drivers really 'don't see' motorcycles. Then, I bought a black and white Police bike at auction and rode that for a while. Magically, I became very visible. Like Moses parting the Red Sea, I could ride down the street and cars waiting at stop signs 3 blocks away would wait for me to go by, and incidents of driver stupidity endangering me didn't happen on a daily basis anymore. Take-away from this experience; People see you, but you are insignificant to them unless it can negatively affect them. ie; cutting off a cop.
Nowadays, you literally can't be seen because half the people on the road are staring at the phone in their lap. Ride like you're invisible.
