I place the entire bottle ( one quart ) to refill on numerous occassions. Also have used the same gasket just as often.

I usually pour a full bottle in. Drain on the side stand until finished and then hold bike upright until whatever was left in the cover has drained out.
Hard to believe the gearbox/primary cannot deal with 4 fl oz extra.

I pull the derby cover at every service and have replaced the o Ring/gasket once, maybe twice in 13 years and 259,000 miles. Once was because it slipped out of the groove got pinched so started leaking. I may have replaced one other time.

And I dump the full quart in and have had no issues

I do the same, I pour one full quart of oil in through the inspection hole. Clutch adjustment is few and far between with Kevlar plates.

NOTE: The earlier models 03 and down do not like a full quart. They will puke the extra out the case breather that goes up under the seat. Messy, and preventable if you use less oil (I forget how much less).
