I have received many parcels, have lots of new parts, ready to be installed, the only things left are chain, cylinders bore and hone, brake lines, manifold clamps and front tire. But, I'm on the verge of losing my job which last 12 years. Last year after our atm service was bought, things became worse and worse. So I was close but not enough. July and August probably is totally out. Paying my debts to friends who supported me and really not sure if I should go for a ride until next spring. I would be drinking now, if I've had spare money.

Looks like situation stabilized a bit, so I was in garage again.

Seems, I still have my job. Thank you, this is definitely great yeah. The new ceo talks like he's interested to save the company. Still low on cash but feels better now. I'm going to give the local hd guys my cylinders around 10th of August. So yes, a bit late but I'm still going to ride this year. I actually have almost all parts now. Need just chain, front tire, brake lines and cylinder bore. Then final assembly.

Finally ready for boring and honing. The local guys made torque plates. Which grit should be used for cylinder honing and does anybody know the torque plates torque?
The service manual says only about late style pistons and 280 grit finishing. I believe I have early style pistons.
Also, the piston rings I have has 2 dots on the 2 of 4 upper rings, the another 2 rings does not have dots at all. The manual says that it may be the late style 83 to 85 rings but it does not look like it's barrel-faced.

Progress for today.

Unfortunately get the wrong speedo drive cable from eBay. The listing said 67051-74 but they send 67051-73.
Made a pretty fine dashboard on headlight visor. Now I have turn signal repeaters. So, waiting for cylinders to be made soon and starting the wiring job.

The final question about piston rings. Anyone?

I have bought these rings.

They are 6 sets, each have rings for 2 pistons. They fit perfectly, the ring gap is correct. But I have some troubles facing them properly.

The 1st has no marks on it and both 1 and 2nd have the shape like this.
How the 1st ring should be positioned?. The 2nd ring has 2 dots on it, so I`ve pictured it there.

Also there is some problem with side clearanse. The manual says that it should be 0.003in to 0.006in, rings rotate freely but I can`t fit 0.05mm tool there.

If the top ring has NO dots, the I.D. bevel faces up.

If the new rings rotate freely with new pistons, I’d use them. The bevel rings have a twist and a coating.
