Everyone actually didn't just run the same jets, the same jets were drilled to taste in many cases.
That's how I used to do Quadrajets.

I found a Hayden vent opened up. That's a very tight fitting little umbrella chamber!

It appears the PO installed this inline on the tank vent.... on an ironhead

It is. And the umbrella fits tight where it pushes in too. That why I didn't think it was using the same umbrella. Just seems so much sturdier.
Would that work in the fuel vent line? They do say not to clean the umbrellas with fuel.

i was talking about extra time. tooo old to wrench the machine anymore.
i run a custom jet in my sport. you can silver solder them shut and then drill to size, do not forget the chamfer.
on the ole ch and mikuni vm, i even polished the needle down.
hobby lathes come in handy.

I don't think that'd be a good idea on the fuel tank.
I should've specified the PO installed it in the oil tank vent line.
which of course is also a bad idea, ( especially inline)

edit:
This was on a 73 XLCH with the timed breather tube.
It seems they were trying to relieve tank pressure by installing an inline vent (positioned one way out the cam chest).
The removal of the path from the tank back to the cam chest seemed to pressurize the tank and blow air/oil out the cap.

Seems like some plumbing issues also.

Yes it is.
I'll probably work on separating the oil inside a little better this off season even tho the amount of oil mixing with the vapors is minimal. Maybe even inevitable. Always trying to make things better tho.

What was the final verdict on this? Anything definitive one way or the other? Always looking to take a proactive approach to making improvements. Especially in questionable areas like crankcase pressure and oiling.

The thread ended there. I'd like to see a video of this bike running.
Lots of interest in it myself.
