Default missing tuner

just bought a 2015 883 super low today with only 1900 kms on it (approx. 1100 miles. Previous owner converted to a 1200 done by dealer, he used the screaming eagle tuner but when he traded it in he did not give dealer the tuner. The tuner is locked to the ecm. What can I do if I need to change things and need to recalibrate

I think this is right (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong):

Another Tuner should 'pair' to the ECM - The idea of the 'pairing' is to prevent guys from using the one tuner on more than one bike (makes you buy a tuner for every bike) - but I think you can have multiple tuners 'paired' to the same bike...

I can't believe someone hasn't cracked that 'feature' by finding a way to reset the Tuner to Original Factory Mode so that it CAN be moved to other bikes...

IXL is correct. It's the Tuner that gets locked; the ICM doesn't care.
I've had to buy new tuners for customers bikes that 'lost' the original ones.

Some tuners (not all) can be paired to different bikes. I'm sure there's at least one on here has the same tuner for a glide & a sporty 7 another shares one with a mates sporty

I'm surprised the tuner manufacturers don't sell you additional software patches ("tunes") for a reduced price lower than a full tuner package.

You might have to register as the original tuner buyer, but that's just like a warranty registration. And, maybe a limit of 3-5 new "tunes" over the life of the tuner? To prevent commercial exploit.

A license to tune an additional bike with a Powervision is $200, which is quite a bit less than a whole new tuner.

Our shop Powervision has tuned a bunch of different bikes via adding tune licenses. But the customer doesn't have the tuner, so he misses out on all the cool features, everything from trip computers to configurable gauges to the reading and clearing codes to on-the-fly adjustments, the list goes on and on. The tune license path has never made much sense to me, but people do it.

Interesting - How does that license get applied to the physical tuner? Does it have to go back to Dynojet to be applied? Use your local PC with downloaded software?

They give you a special file to download.

TTS Mastertune also come in a 2 bike configuration for an extra $200
I used one when I had two bikes in the shop for the same performance work.
The customers knew that I had to keep the tuner. They happened to be friends and they only bring the bike to me for work anyway.

When I die I'll leave it to them in my will

Well, here's how I do it. On the top menu of WinPV, I select Powervision/PV Online Licensing ...

This menu pops up. I buy a credit by entering Hammer's login info and clicking "Buy Credits", which takes me to Dynojet's web page for buying tune licenses. When I complete the process, the credit will show up next to "Number of Credits".

Then I use that credit to in conjunction with the bike's .stk file (which is essentially a back up of the bike's stock tune) to create a license. The .stk file come from a file or from the ECM directly, if the PV is attached to the PC and the bike.

Finally I send that license to the PV. Presto, I can tune that bike with the PV.

"I can't believe someone hasn't cracked that 'feature' by finding a way to reset the Tuner to Original Factory Mode so that it CAN be moved to other bikes..."

I wondered about this so the last time I used the HD Sreamin' Eagle Ignition Race Tuner which like others marries to the ICM, I opened up the black box and used a multi meter to drain the capacitors on the board, that was about a year ago, today I wanted to tweak the 3K rpm low throttle zone and low and behold it acted like is was new and I had to complete the marrying process again so it can be done, at least for this tuner.
