I didn’t contact the dealership because I knew I would be tearing the motor apart to install a big bore kit. It was after the big bore install, 246 break-in miles and an oil change, that I discovered I had a serious engine problem (lots of bronze and copper metal flakes in the oil). Turned out to be a #2 cam cover bushing failure. During the second teardown is when I checked the crank runout. Aaron from Hammer Performance said he is not too concerned about runout unless it’s more than .006, but I’m with you, the MoCo should be giving customers a true crankshaft from the jump.

I have read most of the thread about your project.. I hope it ended well!
I witnessed a similar issue in a industrial application some years ago. The reason for the failure of that plain bearing was too tight a fit between the bronze bushing and the journal. Not saying it was the same failure mode in your case, but it is likely imo.

Thanks! It’s not complete yet though. I’m still waiting on that rear rocker box cover to ship. No one can definitively say what the exact cause was, but there was reportedly shadowing on the #2 cam cover bushing. When I inquired about what that meant, I was told that it was indicative of heat, so what you witnessed certainly sounds like it could have been my issue as well. Add in the crank being out of true, I’m sure that didn’t help the situation any.

After all that time and money you must have put into that engine, I cross my fingers that you will be satisfied.

The 1275 kit will improve the engines' balance factor but the bigger difference comes form tuning. Powervision with better timing and fuel tables reduces vibration, even on an otherwise stock engine. The emissions biased tuning they come with is pretty dismal.

Thats good to know, it gives me some hope to improve this
I dont have a Powervision, so I have manually entered all the data Aaron sent me into my FP3. I hope that will do it.
Still waiting for the parts to leave USA. They have been stuck somewhere for more than 20 days now.
