Default Cam chest vent fitting

I just picked up an 88 and am not too familiar with the venting system. The vent fitting at the 10 o’clock position that is supposed to go up to the breather is broken. The fitting is still there but the barb is gone. Is this a one way valve or can I just install any fitting there and run a filter on it? I took the fitting out and it’s not open and does appear to be a one way. Just seeking some clarity. Thanks.

It's just a fitting.
The one way valve is behind it inside the cam cover.

I think the thread there is 1/4 NPT. Most hardware stores have a nice selection of brass NPT to Hose Barb fittings in the plumbing section.

It's an outlet only so a filter isn't advised - it'll just collect and drip oil. You can either reconnect it to where it's supposed to go or run an open hose someplace unobtrusive.

be careful IF it is npt as it can crack the case. logically ntps would be best. does not need a whole lot of torque here, just some thread sealant.
