My '92 model has '883' stamped on the cylinder base, right side, just behind a pushrod, hard to see. There's also some kind of 'A' sign and ''91' stamped on the same side.

The main part measures across the cylinder diameter and the wire portion on the bottom will measure the depth of the stroke...

Twist the grip! If it pulls hard to upper rpms, its a 1200. If it falls flat and stops accelerating half way up, its a 883.
