If you look at the first pic I managed to post (!) you can see the rails pointing up.
I can make the curve of the mudguard fit the rear wheel much better than in that pic by fitting them the other way round (and filling holes etc)
I just don,t want the rest of my life spoilt by more knowledgeable people than I going
"oooooo look, the seat rails are upside down hahahahahahaha"

Needspeed - I,m sure these are aftermarket rails, but they don,t look bent - just tapered one way

Hi lynx. I've just jumped through the DVLA hoops myself. They had my documents for over three weeks, but I received them back yesterday with an age related number for my 77 XLCH. I used Warrs for the dating letter. Very prompt hassle free service. DVLA didn't want to come and see my numbers, and I think this may be because Warrs made a point of stating in their letter that " the stamped numbers are in the correct places and are clearly shown in the very detailed photographs" or something very similar. I did make sure that the numbers were clear on the frame by sending pics as is, and also by highlighting the stampings with white chalk dust so they stood out like a dogs dick. I guess them needing to see for themselves is fine so long as you don't get charged for the visit?
Anyway, good luck with the bike! I'm in Kernow, hook up when riding maybe?

Hi Pezed,
I was hoping to get away with the US title, but I have no idea what was on the NOVA for the chassis number.
It may have said "not visible " or something. As you know , pre 70 Harleys had no frame number.
Oh well, I have got away with it 3 times in the last 18 months so they were bound to go ",ang on a minute" when my name and address popped up AGAIN lol.
I,ve recovered a original reg on a 1947 bike, got an age related reg for my '77 cb750a and registered a kit car all without problems..!!!
Guess the luck ran out.
I,ll post some pics of how the bikes coming along.
Slowly and expensively.sigh.

Can anyone tell me the correct stack up for the front engine plates.
Whilst dry fitting my engine its apparent that there is a gap between the left hand plate and the frame bosses.
The rear mount is sitting nicely.

Have been looking at this lately for my project. Don't have the links handy but there are several threads that cover the front engine mounts in detail. Search for engine mounts and the relevant threads should appear. Some very useful stuff from piniongear, Mick and from Dr Dick.

Here's one motor mount link. One discrepancy. Dr. Dick's parts list shows 6 grooved washers. The parts book lists 5. I'm not saying which is correct, though 5 makes sense.

A good pic of an assembled mount would help the most.

The combined brain power has solved the problem...thanks to all.
Some F**kwit in the past has assembled it without the hardened washers against the spacers/rh engine plate.
Result ? - bent frame and a hardened washer size gap on the OUTside of the lh engine plate.
Amazing what a long spanner can do.
It was the fact that the spacers fit the gap exactly that gave the game away.

I noticed when I took it out that there was a lot of spring...……..
