I was not suggesting the thread was not informative. As I posted already, I have run engines with oil coolers on them for the life of the engine and run engines without them. I simply stated that getting consistent engine temperatures would be better accomplished with a water cooled engine. I see no need to remove the thread.

Then i have never said i mounted the cooler to have consistent temps...
i have installed the cooler to run a bit colder... let alone a surplus of oil capacity...

My solution to making the engine run cooler (I live in AZ) is not an oil cooler, but either rejetting the carb or using a Power Commander on EFI bikes to richen the air/fuel mixture. You would be amazed at just how much a proper air/fuel mixture will cool the engine down. There is nothing wrong with the engine design. The problem is all the result of the EPA meddling where they shouldn't be. Make the air/fuel mixture richer, and the temp will come down.

I have a small fin 1275. That is maxed out. There is a limit to how much you can fatten up the fuel air mixture

Yes there is a limit. But having lived in AZ all my life (I'm 59)I learned that the best way to keep an air cooled engine cool in the 112+ degree temperatures we have here is to run them as rich as possible. It has worked with air cooled bikes and air cooled Volkswagens. First get a temperature gauge for the oil tank if you don't already have one, and see what the oil temperature is running. It will be hotter in stop and go city traffic than it will be out on the highway.

If it is maxed out, and is still running too hot, an oil cooler may be your only option. I didn't realize it was modified.
