So, here is the current situation in the shop.
I was having a late season sideways ball with the bike on gravel roads, got too exited and came off the road. Hit a rock in the ditch and the left case got a crack at the sump area... As the engine will be split I am aiming for a Buell crank to get her snappier in characteristics and of course lighter. Nothing bad that doesn´t have any good with it as a Buell (or S&S) crank was my aim back when setting her up but didn´t happen. Alloy barrels would be nice too...

That would be nice to put it on a whole 5-speed Evolution bottom end. Hot Dock and Sundance in Japan have done it a ton. I'm sure your guy Charley Karling over there could do it. I think the frame mounting locations are all the same. Somebody could probably correct me on that.

Thanks 4 liter. As I love my Buell X1, a 5 speed bottom with XR top end in this chassis have crossed my mind not only once. Don´t think it will happen tho, as I have a few bikes that need attention and funds. But it would be a cool project for sure.
Funny you are mentioning Charley Karling as him and me are planning on setting my baby upp again after repair work on the cases. Guy knows his stuff.

Hey Roger. No worries about the XR, she´ll be in better shape when summer comes. Thanks for helping out, you know I appreciate that. Headers you helped out with are the ones I use after modding them for the XR-750 frame. Storz mufflers saved a little weight also. I like this setup better than the `trapps.
Hope your XR1000 progress is going well!

Ok guys, I haven’t updated here for quite a while so just fyi, the bike is up and running again. Wanted a lighter crank but it didn’t happen so shes running just as she did prior to the accident. Hope to get many trouble free miles on her from now on
My photobucket is fu**ed up so I’m trying to figure out how to post images here from my cell phone...

Sorry if I'm a few years late to this thread. Putting an XR top end on an Evo was mentioned. I don't know how similar in shape and size the Evo cylinder deck is compared to that of the ironhead, but there's enough room on the IH to drill and tap for XR pattern studs. In this photo, holes had not yet been tapped, but you get the picture.
