At the upper right in the thread there is a tab called "thread tools". Clicking "show printable version" shows the thread with what looks to be a link to the pic, but it just shows an error. Some how it's corrupted.

Anyway, the pic (that I somehow saw once) shows the #2 cam with the larger gear off and the key cleanly sheared off.

Yes, have to keep the rear wheel mostly covered. To stop the passenger from slowing me down by grabbing onto the spinning wheel by mistake.

I'm glad others are having some problems seeing these things. I'm thinking ever since ASIO told the FBI to keep an eye on me the CIA has been censoring my Internet trough Interpol.

Not sure if this is browser related, some kind of DNS issue or just the Chinese xxx*ing with me.

Good tip Needspeed. Never realized that option as there. I can see the link but gey a (basically) blank page when I go there.

I suspect some kind of restriction from Googles end. The link is for "googleuser"

That may well be the root of the problem.

Googleuseraccounts is a known hackers heaven. Hackers have been inserting EXIF scripts into images uploaded to googleuseaccounts. Probably any number of DNS servers refusing to pass these along.

OK, I can see that.

Now maybe I'm just getting old. And maybe I've not been paying attention. But this is a rear intake cam from a 73 ? I don't remember them having a separate pinion gear held on by a woodruff key (which in this case looks to be a half moon key anyway)

I only have Sifton cams in my spares box and they are all one piece.

I know the cams changed in 71 - did they make this change then ?

I don't play much with the 1000 cc bikes. I can't race them.

Woodruff key or half moon key. Call it what you want.

XLXLXL, Do you have an idea why this happened? I have removed that gear and found the press fit to be quite tight. Is yours tight or loose? If tight, it must have taken a huge force to rotate the gear and shear the key.

I don't think your mismarked #3 cam had any affect on it as it retarded the valve timing making contact with a piston or the exhaust valve less likely. Any chance the valve springs coil bound or the upper spring collar hit the valve guide? Or something jammed in the gear teeth?

I think you've had your share of bad luck.

my 74 p cams are like this one.
probably what happened mr. need
there is quite a bit of force with the cams loading and unloading. my guess would be stress failure of the key. i have seen key failures on other engines.
my cams were also miss marked and yet it ran but with severe lack of performance.
