lol

That's the good (and bad) thing about living in the Keys

when I was a kid my Uncle on Conch Key would say "I start to build a couple lobster traps but after the fourth beer...I just go down to JoJo's"

had to put a new starter on the pig... and while the hood was up I tossed a new 130/70-18 Dunlop K404 front tire on and a new set of EBC brake pads... so the trailmax rear on the front was a good idea for a while but it did not like the braking loads and cupped quite badly... I gotta say the XR1200X brake set up is very good... Nissin calipers... great selection of brake pads... their not as good as the Yamaha/Sumitomo Monoblocks but superb none the less... one finger braking and two finger stoppies are back... ill post some pics in a bit..

yeah the dunlop trailmax are a great tire.. just no front in 18"... they hook up great on dirt and gravel roads... the rear is wearing like Iron with Great on and off road grip... the rear will hang out a bit on pavement if ya want however its pretty controllable...

Nice work.

Is the steering damper location the only place they'll mount on the model bike you have?

One good fall and that damper rod is going straight under your left kneecap. Not even a fall, just a decent near-highside or tank slapper would do it.

It's OK ive already fallen with this bike and since I lost half of my left kneecap in a 1976 mishap it missed anything vital... that was the day I learned that you need to get away from that 2 wheel pile of kinetic energy when you cant save it..

Steve Stortz at Stortz Performance Sells these italian dampers and brackets for XL sportsters... its important to have the damper adjuster on your clutch hand so you can still make adjustments WFO.... for serious work Id use only Ohlins... On my XR I made a bracket that mounts the same damper on the right side but it was a quick and dirty and ill TIG up a bracket that moves it to the proper side when the final assembly starts...
