I just gave my older Miller Dialarc 250 Ac/Dc tig machine to my younger brother. I would have posted it on C/L for $500 with bottle. It has treated me well for years and still had a quite a bit of life left in it. For the "occasional " welder, a decent real tig machine can be had for cheap. Learn on that and you can attack most any job you would find around "home" and have the capabilities to tackle bigger jobs when you get proficient.
My $.02

Just a few examples with a not so high ASKING price. For most users, these would probably be the last welding machine you would ever need to buy. Not a very big buy in for some decent machines. One of these could most likely be had for the $ you would spend on a few crappy buzz boxes, a few spools of learning wire and still give capabilities to do alum work. Or this enables you to invite a buddy (a known good operator) over to do your welding for your project in your garage, all while you peer over his/her shoulder. What would you pay to have a shop weld up your custom exhaust, or that little bracket ect.

Yeah. I go into craiglist heaven when visiting my younger sis in Peoria. Just window shop though.

Then there is the church thrift stores near Sun City with estate sale gear for sale that will make your knees weak.

Sun City is a potential gold mine. Most items are from an era when they still made items to last.
