I own a 1973 R 75/5, its quite a different animal than my 2012 Sportster.

Still, I prefer to ride the Sportster, more torque available than the airhead, even if I may ride at lower RPM's in town with the Beemer than the Harley. Sounds strange, but so it is.

That R18 looks good, but won't be cheap, and is not adapted to european roads.

I find the R18 gorgeous and technically interesting but not a bike I'd buy. It's interesting to see how they're meeting the upcoming EURO 5 and then EURO 6 standards. The cylinder heads sticking out on a cruiser are simply a deal killer. No way around that. Sneak a V-Twin into that chassis and it would be interesting... It sure is pretty.

Ah, didn't know that, an improvement. It wasn't really awkward, it was just something to get used to. No other bikes I know of had that phenomenon Still love the old BMW's, very reliable. I find the newer adventure bikes just so ridiculous big. I do like the old '80's R80G/S

Your are right I think, maybe it doesn't look very different from a Sportster riding position. I do not like forward controls, especially not in city traffic. However, on every Sportster I owned I did placed highway pegs and I quite use them a lot. On longer trips and as soon as I leave the city traffic. I really like them to stretch the legs a bit. I think I will miss that on an R18.

Lotta stuff I find weird that's currently fashionable. Lots of "adventure touring" seems to occur in Starbucks parking lots... If I was going to pick my favorite old BMW it would be the R90/6.
