I told him he’d have a 1200 that operates like a 883
He went on a tirade saying how wrong I am because he did a engine 1200 conversion and it kills yet never did the pulley swap to a 883 pulley to prove me wrong
I’m a actual mechanic I know what will happen but armchair wannabe mechanic knows all LOL
Watch he will never do the actual swap but rail against a actual mechanic to earths ends lol
LOL this is why actual mechanics or welders never pipe up here too much lol these family guy armchair mechanics just love attacking the real thing just to say ‘I’m right’
I am a 25yr welder 16yr mechanic but here family guys know it all eh

Madnss is an accomplished mechanic and racer, and has built some tremendously fast bikes. I wouldn't go questioning his knowledge or ability if I were you.
The statement that a 1200 will operate like an 883 if the gearing isn't changed is just nonsense.
We helped almost a thousand people with conversions last year, the vast majority of those starting with an 883. More than 95% left their stock 883 gearing in place. I have yet to hear one tell me that their bike operates like an 883. Instead, we constantly have customers telling us what a massive difference it made. We also have quite a few tell us that the conversion actually reduced the vibration.
Furthermore, gearing shorter doesn't necessarily make the top speed slower. In fact, if the motor is unable to reach it's power peak rpm with the gearing in place, gearing it shorter will actually increase the top speed.

To answer the actual question posed here, there are several devices available in the aftermarket that will do this for you. They plug into the harness for the VSS and give you a way to adjust the speedometer. Google "harley speedometer correction".

Hey man I know a conversion is always good
Just I didn’t say anything wrong about the pulley change
If his engine is a 1200 factory or 1200 conversion the swap to 883 pulley will result in 883 operations, the gearing will see better 1st 3 gears having more jump but scream rpms at highway speeds
I never said anything about a 1200 conversion being bad, especially not yours bro
Your conversion kits rule
My answer was to 29t pulley to 27t effects

Do the math on that. Going from a 29T to a 27T final drive pulley will raise your rpm's by 7% at any given speed. So for example, if you're going down the highway turning 3500rpm, then swapping to a 27T means you'll be 3745rpm at the same speed. Not everyone considers that to be "screaming".
In return, you get a 7% increase in rear wheel torque in any given gear and at any given rpm.
For some people, that's a good thing. For others it's not. That's why some people gear their bikes taller and some shorter.
Gearing shorter, however, does not make a 1200 operate like an 883. It still has massively more power, all else equal.
Buell shipped tens of thousands of 1200cc bikes equipped with 27T front pulleys, from 1996 through 2002. They did that because performance matters to some people.

I'm quite satisfied with the 883 gearing on my Hammer 1250 conversion. Riding conditions are different across the country. Riding the freeways in SoCal is not like I-80 or even I-15 outside Vegas. It's chaos versus serenity. I find the added "jump" a move toward a safer ride where I live. I want to be able to get out of a hazard, fast.
From aswracing: "Instead, we constantly have customers telling us what a massive difference it made. We also have quite a few tell us that the conversion actually reduced the vibration."
I'm one of them. My bike runs superbly, smooth, powerful, and quick.
YMMV.

Shifting down won't add power to the engine and going with a taller pulley will rob available power, even a kindergarten mechanic know that.
For the ones who wants a 15 second 1/4 mile bike I highly suggest a 31 front pulley.

Where are you getting your information? 27t 883 front pulleys sell as soon as the ad post. You wouldn't be interested in one would you? I put one on my 1200 and it helped a lot but I'm pulling a sidecar around slow and it needed it.
