Yeah but the dumbass picked me!
Hell I bout had a hangover already.
1976-1977-1978-1979 Trans Am, stock 455, not super duty (I believe I got that out of a 69 Pontiac)
edit: I think back then they called it HO (or high output)
Drove the car home, pulled the motor and the guy came picked up his car with a wrecker.
I added a mild cam, Holley 650 w/ mech secondary's and converter block, headers w/ Big Daddy's and a stall converter.
50s on back and 60s on front (air shocks to keep the wheel wells off the back tires)
Otherwise stock anyway.
Point being, those cars would do anything I wanted to do anytime I wanted to do it.
I had no concerns whatsoever with oil quality.

edit:
I forgot to mention 411 positive track rear end (Ok it really wasn't ...stock but....)
I didn't really have much money in it since a lot of the parts I already had.

Can you build a Honda that would do all that?

you are right mr. hippy, a lot of good things has gone to the graveyard.
i loved my torqueflite a727 tranny. shift kit with zero slip. it had twin oil pumps and could be push started.
i showed it no mercy, going from full on reverse to d1 at times just to show off. the 273hp came from the moco at 275 hp but a little cam work and manifold/carb upgrade made her come alive, nothing like the 440 but it would surprise some chevy small blocks.
but a tricked 4 banger honda civic would make mince meat out of it!

We took a stock 400 Pontiac and put it in a Buick Regal (The Beagle) and it smoked a Grand National with a racing chip.
Newer cars are much lighter made which is why the cheesy motors tote them alright I believe.
Easier to total the lighter cars too.
Dude thought he was going to push my truck out of his way one day going about 60, he learned a lesson in weight distribution.
I felt a bump, he felt a sudden stop in front of a pine tree.
But we are safer in the newer lighter cars due to the air bags that try and take your face off when they deploy.
Ran over a dog in a blind curve in the dark of night and got smacked in the head by the air bag.
We did not swap engineering for safety in my opinion.
And every electric gismo they add simply stops working.
But since it's you, I'll admit that the lighter cars don't take nearly as much power to launch or tote.
If that's the only criteria, viva the newer POS.
Mechanically speaking, I've been into more newer motors than I have SBCs of late.
Matter of fact, I've got more parts for newer motors than older ones at the moment.
That's out of needing to replace stuff, not pleasure work.
My feeling is the newer cars are nothing more than throw away vehicles.
I got that from working on them...… not the internet.

totally agree mr. hippy
i had a friend of mine that had an electra 225 i think from buick. the thing weighed nearly 2 1/2 tons but if you were walking down the road and he pulled along side, he could lite the tires up and you could see the needle running 100mph while we were talking. i do not remember the engine. but going down the highway, that thing would float like cloud 100+ and not even look back.

Heh,
The Mercury got rear ended today by a kid in a tow truck.
Left turn lane everybody's jumping in at the same time.
I put 1/2 car length between me and the car in front (jump and slam on brakes in front of them).
Tow truck popped the rear bumper.
I saw his grill, eased up a few feet and dam if he didn't hit me anyway.
His excuse: There was 10 feet in front of me and he didn't understand why I didn't pull up.
My response: If it were 50 feet, you had no business on my ass.
He still didn't get it.
Be safe out there ya'll.

at least no one got hurt
he probably now needs to change his boxers.
if that were a 60's mercury, all you needed to do was dust off the chrome bumper!!!
