It could be, but my whole point is that any of that would be totally unnecessary in just about any Hooligan race. Even on a 1/2 mile, the straights are around 1/8 mi. The "art" in flat track is turning. Turning fast and in semi control. Do that better than the competition and you'll win races as long as you are pushing similar power & traction elsewhere.

You're gonna see that "art" in it's highest form tonight at the short track!!!!

The excitement is back in the twins!!!!!

Good to see Robinson win. Super stoked for Vanderkooi snagging another 4th on his 21st birthday! Halbert was 7th so the XG is definitely coming on.

Kinda disappointed the other various brands didn't show better. Thinking that'll change when we get on a long track.

I have to agree with you. I started a long rant about Indian, but it wouldn't serve any purpose other than to show that I don't like what they're doing to Flat Track. Vanderkooi really was impressive and I enjoyed watching Robinson show his mettle. I was a bit disappointed that both Shayna Texter and Henry Wiles went backwards in their respective races.

I hope things get more competitive once the series hits the 1/2 Miles and Miles. Smith should be deadly on a Mile; as well as a number of others.

I'm no Indian fan by a long shot, but I'm kinda, sorta glad for what they did. They are as responsible as anyone for reinvigorating Flat Track. Not more responsible, but as responsible. Especially with so many riders on Indians, they've become the brand for haters to hate. That was Harley-Davidson for the last forty years and part of why the sport stagnated at the professional level. Time will tell but I personally think Indian's entry has been good for the sport overall. I'm still not an Indian fan, but I will give the devil his dues. I hope the multi-brand competition has convinced the doubters that AFT's double standard for race only vs production based engines was the right move.

Dixie is a tough track. Roughly 3/8 mile with only one short (true) straight on the back side.


Size is deceiving because it is a physical track. There's no relative break for long straight a ways. You're fighting all the way around. Like her weakness, the TT's, I think it just whipped Shayna. She looked good the first half but after the second restart she was done. Just wore out I think. She can work out all she's able, but at the end of the day she is still a TINY person! Man, woman, it doesn't matter. When it comes to stamina, energy reserves is key. Small reserves, muscles, etc. in a smaller body are simply going to wear out faster. Who knows what happened to Henry.

It's great having Brad Baker's current insight in the announcing booth!!! His speculation on tire choices being key to the race played out just as he predicted and was further confirmed by Mees after the race. It could be what held Wiles back. Who knows?

I was really expecting Beech and Carlysle to do better. I'm thinking maybe all the work on Smith's Kawasaki has been directed at the longer tracks and he's kinda struggling on these first two shorter ones. Could be the sam for the Yamaha's and they've had a lot less development time.

Not to be overlooked is this little trend; Briar, Wiles and VANDERKOOI are the most consistent points earners after two races. And I'm leaning toward Jarod being the most consistent of them! I'm not making any predictions, but more than one championship has been won by guys who consistently finish in the top five without winning many or even ANY races.

This weekend is the Texas Half Mile. Now it's time to get to the "Meat and Potatoes" of the racing season; Half Miles and Miles. The production Twins class is having its first race of the season, and from the hype from AFT there are a lot of singles riders who'll be out there on twins. There will be at least one XG 750 out there. It's being ridden by multi time road race winner Danny Eslick and is part of the Black Hills H-D team. I was a fan of Eslick when he was racing Buells in Superbike events, and I'm hoping he does well on Saturday. Danny will be riding a Yamaha in the Singles class as well as the Production Class XG.

I'm also hoping that there are more bikes that can run with and beat the Indians. Brian Smith's Kawasaki should hopefully be in the mix and I have high hopes for JD Beach on the Yamaha, as well as the Factory XGs of Vanderkooi and Halbert.

I'll be glued to my laptop starting at 5:00 Saturday afternoon. I hope it's a good race!

They're taking a break just now but in about an hour at https://www.fanschoice.tv/events/aft...ttorneys-5-11/ the So-Cal. 1/2 mile is LIVE and FREE!!! [They're running video of last year's race during the intermission] If you haven't already, you'll have to log in at Fanschoice.TV but this race is gonna be worth it even if you're not interested in flat track.

The H-D's are finally coming in.

Jarrod Vanderkooi just finished 2nd and Sam Halbert finished 3rd in their semi-finals. That's both of the factory Harley's in the twins class. The main event just might be a history maker for the new XG750!!!!! To put this into context, Jared Mees, the defending champion and star Indian factory rider, just barely earned a spot in the main event. Finishing his semi next to last.

Nearer to the hearts of XLF members, "Smoking Joe" Kopp has been running away in the Super Hooligan class on a SPORTSTER.

If you wanna see some awesome motorcycle racing from the comfort of wherever you are, don't miss this one!

It was good racing. It was safe racing (which surprised me!) and the track was pretty well maintained throughout the day. TT's really aren't my thing, but I thoroughly enjoyed the race. Finally, if you read the rules from the beginning of TT's, this one probably comes closer to the original intent than anything we've seen in decades.

Soooo, to answer your question. I liked it. I'm surprised I liked it and TT's still aren't particularly my thing, but, yeah, I liked it.

What a great race! I thought Halbert had a real shot at winning before the red flag. Even after the restart when he went backwards, he was passing people and got all the way up to third. Vanderkooi finished fourth. It looks like the Factory Harleys are getting there. I'm looking forward to watching Sacramento next week and I'll be at THE Mile at Springfield on Memorial Day Weekend. I'd dearly love to see an XG 750 win there!
