It's amazing how many people know so much about a bike they haven't even seen in the flesh, let alone ridden.

I love my Roadster, but there's always room for improvement. I will get a newer Roadster when my debt is much less and I have more available cash to spend. I demo rode one at Daytona last year and fell in love. I'm not going to judge the new bikes until I get a chance to ride one. I may dislike it as much as I dislike the new Indian Scout. Or, I may love it as soon as I take it out for a ride. It might feel even more like a Sportster than my Roadster does.

My old friend Bill thought that all motorcycle evolution ended when the MoFoCo stopped building Iron Motors, and he wouldn't even consider taking a rubber mount out for a Demo ride. Personally, I think the rubber mount is the best Sportster I've ever ridden. I like the Fuel Injection on the newer models better than the Carbureted engine I've got.

In any event, before I shit all over the new bikes, I'll ride one first. Then, if I don't like it, I'll announce it to the world.

Funny enough, after years of riding carburetted bikes and noticing how much trouble they have going up and down mountains and varying altitudes, I longed for the day that I could have a fuel injected bike. Lo and behold, I now have one and unlike the carburetted models, this one works. Yes, carburettors are easier to adjust and tune, but once I've tuned the thing I like to ride it, so I'll stick with EFI.

Funny, I’ve heard all these stories about the inadequacy of carbs dealing with large altitude changes. Even had a good friend of mine tell me to take extra jets on last year’s C.O.B.B. Run. Didn’t, and can’t say that I noticed a performance change even at the top of Pikes Peak on our return run. Was I missing something?

Again guys, CV carbs are unique in that they are self-adjusting on the main circuit since the needle that meters fuel flow through the main jet is lifted with a vacuum diaphragm which moves based on pressure differentials. So it moves less sat altitude than at sea level.

That said, I'll take EFI every day of the week for a sealed fuel system that doesn't gunk as easily and starts quicker and more regularly at all temperatures, humidity, and especially after sitting.

I think they need to have the same spirit of the Sportster in order to be called a Sportster. Let's face it, the modern Sportsters of today are nothing like the Ironheads of 1957, and they're still called sportsters. If this bike shares that same spirit (lightweight, fast-ish, nimble handling, minimalistic and easy to customise, etc) then I don't see why it shouldn't be called a Sportster. Who cares about whether the engine has 4 valves or 128 valves, and who cares that it's liquid cooled (which I wouldn't mind myself).

Well guess what, my 19 year old daughter bought a 1997 883 Sportster a couple years ago, she loves her bike, but last weekend we took an Intermediate riders class together. She's 19 and bought a sportster a couple of years ago?! Good to start young.

I've got mixed feelings about the Street. On one side, it's fantastic that Harley are looking to capture that market. The Street was never aimed at old codgers who want "the traditional harley experience" to begin with, it's aimed mostly at new riders. Although I'm not considering one myself, they look cool and are basically miniature V-Rods. On the other hand, I can't see what the Street offers that Yamaha/Honda/Kawasaki/etc don't. I honestly would like the Street to be better than those bikes, because Harley has a track record of making everything available for years and years, and even long-gone models still have parts available from Harley; I've not seen that kind of stability from Japanese manufacturers.
