Generator Blues
So... I had the bike out for a spin last weekend. 20 miles or so from the house, the generator light comes on. I turned around and made it home on the battery. I started in on the FSM testing of the generator and determined that is was not outputting at all. So, on to disassembly. I was quite surprised as to what I found. Turns out, one of the commutator bars in the armature decided to come out, taking out both of the brushes and destroying the brush plate. It then migrated its way inside to damage the coils as well. So, I essentially can re-use the case and the drive gear. Wish I had pics to share but I am sure you can imagine the carnage.

...if he’s currently producing a batch of them. If not might be a long wait. Maybe you have a crusty old electric motor shop near by that help you out.

indeed. Been running them on 2 everyday riders and have had zero problems or concerns. And cheaper than a complete rebuild of your old one

I really dont ride the ole girl much. I bought a cycle electric 65A equivalent. This way I can still use me cool old electric frank's voltage regulator (assuming it still works). The drive gear was a tight fit so I plan to use it on the newe generator. I will hold onto what is left of the old one and piece it back together in my spare time to have it on the shelf.

I have never seen an Electric Frank's regulator that was bad, as long as all 3 wires were still on it.

i applaud this.also,it's important to keep your old drive gear because the new generators don't come with one.
