^^
Thanks for the videos. I think it would be interesting to see how much rotation you get from pushing very slowly on the kick pedal. Then it could be seen how much additional rotation is gained by giving it a strong kick.
But anyway, thanks for posting. Very interesting.

I cannot see the videos. You must have embedded them, but all I see is two big blank blocks of nothing in your post. I would sure like to watch these. Could you post links in addition to embedding them?
Or, for those of you who know your way around this forum a bit better, maybe you can suggest what I need to change to be able to see embedded videos. I'm a paying member, so I would hope that allows me to do such things.

Jeff..... it's probably something unique to your version of browser. I'm using Chrome....... and the YT2 tags in BBcode here on the xlforum. It shouldn't embed anything per se, but ?? Of course, that's just a WAG on my part. I may be wrong.
Tomorrow, I'll see if I can get another video for needspeed's interest.
In any event, here's the 2 direct links to youtube: As I suggested in Post #67, one might want to set the YouTube playback speed to 0.25 and/or set Full Screen mode.

Thanks, Doc. Interestingly, once I viewed the videos via the links you just posted, I went back and looked at post #67 and can now see the embedded videos. Go figure...
Anyway, interesting stuff. I certainly cannot feel the second compression stroke in the kicker, but I must be getting one if the crank goes around twice. Things that make you go "hmmm"...

It's likely that the problem was caching of the previous post which was without the video - You need to flush the cache & reload the page - that probably would have shown them.
The videos are interesting. It would be good to hear from someone who has a kicker & the programming software. Set the 3-dead-revs (3DR) & report what the effect is on getting it started.
I'm interested to know if this issue is a matter of convenience or necessity. In other words, is a there a reliable procedure to get past the 3DR and kick-start as normal? Or is it impossible to kick-start the engine in that 3DR condition?

So, even exiting this forum and surfing other points on the interwebs, the cache retains the last image of each thing I looked at here. I guess that makes sense to this less than internet savvy old fart.
I wonder if the three dead revs could serve as a sort of "priming" feature. Like I said, I give it a few priming kicks before turning on the key anyway. At least when cold. I think that would be a problem when it's warmed up, though.

Here's a video needspeed asked for. A slow kick thru via hand on the same '71 xlch, 900 motor. Sparks plugs REMOVED. Almost, but not quite 1 complete revolution. Here's the direct link, just in case: and the YT2 tagged version:

Excellent vid. Very close to my guesstimate in post #63. Thank you for that.
