Anyone have any experience with rehab?

Money has been set aside for him to attend, but he isn’t interested at the present time. In fact, he isn’t interested in anything, won’t even answer my calls or messages.

Just curious whether it is a waste of money anyway - likelihood of relapsing etc.

How would AA work out with him needing to drink to avoid other serious medical problems? At this stage his doctor advises it would be a bad idea for him to stop immediately, and I understand this is what AA are all about - so I believe he requires some form of medical intervention beforehand.

If he wants to quit it will be money well spent. If he doesn't, Donald Trump and the US taxpayers money combined won't save him from himself.

IF he is willing to go to AA it may help but there are several different groups and they all have their own way, try a few see how he fits.
My dealings with them over the years has simply been with family members that decided to stop and a lot of AA groups are more interested in helping rather than forcing you to quit drinking or push religion, one group I went to for a while had an indian member, who believed in the power of mother earth and trees. which to him was his Higher power, not god..
Most if not all members have had relapses and picked up the bottle again then decided to stop again.
My experience has been to show them what they can have and they will want it.
As far as rehab I have never seen it work for long unless it is maintained with a support group. and if not ready to make the commitment. A waist of money and time.

Thanks fellas, I saw him today and he looked better than he has in a long while. Fingers crossed he will be ready to think about long term recovery soon. I believe in the past he has been prescribed something that makes him feel sick if he drinks, but he ditched it after a couple of tries.

Lot's of good advice.
But Unless he wants to quit, he won't. He's looking better. I hope he's feeling better and looking in the mirror and noticing the change for the better. If not, he won't quit. I can only speak for from my own experience, when I say, He will quit, only if he wants to quit. You are a good friend.
