Just a suggestion, when working on new electrical parts (or any parts for that matter) interior to the engine and new parts, they should be placed on a clean surface to keep contamination off the new parts.

You're right. Definitely helps to keep everything clean. I know there is a fair amount of trash on the floor as seen in the pics... I typically use a combination of rags, compressed air or whatever else to clean something first, and then install it.

Really, my (relatively) clean bench is covered with other parts/projects etc, so I just laid the stators down on the ground in order to get some pics with nothing else in the background. Well aside from whatever is floating around on the ground haha!

I put a Barnett extra clutch plate kit and Barnett diaphragm spring in not too long ago. Still seems ok!

And so it should be! That could be your issue as the adjustment is a bit more fussy without the spring plate and sometimes it take a few miles for the clutch pack to bed in. If the throw out bearing is worn it can also give a spongy feel. The alternative angular contact bearing helps give a good clean bite point.

Well it's good to know that upon deleting that spring plate the adjustment is more difficult. That might explain some of this haha.

I have the 7200B in there now... Cheapie from Amazon. I'll probably try to source a better quality bearing to put in eventually.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but I've got the same issue on my XL1200CX, bit of background, battery was about 3 years old, and one day it was working, next day my battery light came on and bike wouldn't start. I pulled the battery and brought it to get load tested. Wouldnt hold a charge so bam, problem solved right? Bought a new battery, the stupid expensive lithium one from Harley. It was light, and I have great experience with those types of batteries in the past. I put it in, no battery light, rode around and everything was great.

I rode in to work the following morning at zero dark thirty, as soon as I put the blinker on to get on the freeway, battery light came on. So the AGM battery is rated at like 12 or 15 AH and the lithium one is rated at 4 AH, as soon as the battery light came on, my lights dimmed dangerously low. Didnt have the AH to continue to run the lights. Scary but whatever, I had to get to work right?

Anyways, bike didnt start, needed a jump to get home. I made it home tested the voltage across the terminals and wasn't getting anything. Seriously like 7 volts or something. I unplugged the regulator, tested the stator and everything was looking peachy, no shorts or anything. I order a new regulator and hooked it up, charged the battery. Its holding voltage around 13.8 volts. Started her up, voltage went down to about 12.5 or so. But again, not charging the battery. So I unplug the stator wire again and I start checking for voltage and ground, now this time I see a short to ground.... ugh.

Long story short, how hard is it really to replace the stator? I dont have any impact wrenches, I dont have that block to hold the primary from moving, I've got torque wrenches at work but not at home. Is it a huge PITA? Should I take it in? Hell, I'm on the original clutch too, should I replace that too preemptively it's open?

How much time am I looking at? I'm an active duty Marine, I work a lot, and the weekends are reserved for family. Is it stupid expensive to have a shop do this? Is it stupid pain in the ass to do it myself spending a few hours a night?

To make matters worse, my wife hates the sporty and wants me to get rid of it and get another Guzzi ha ha.
