Just wondering as i don't have a welder and don't really fancy cutting the silencers in half,
is it possible to drill the cats' out? Are they a huge restriction?

It is possible. I wouldn't recommend it. Would create a huge mess. Also, with the way the baffle is, you won't get it all out. When I chucked my cats and baffle I made a new baffle for the mufflers then welded it back up at a buddies house. And the only way to get the stock baffle/cat out is to chop the muffler up.

It can be done, but wouldn't recommend the drill option. Just my 2 cents

Thanks for the pic. The pipe isn't straight thru is it? I know the outside is wrapped, but was wondering if the center of the pipe is blocked so the exhaust gases have to pass thru the "cat" material. Or is it more of a passive convertor where only some of the gases pass thru? All the diagrams on the "net" are vague at best.

The center is blocked. In my picture, about where my thumb is at is where there is a plug. It would be possible to drill that out.

I have attached the pictures for the mod that I did. Not the best looking...or the most functional...but it definitely improved the sound and the performance. Don't ask how much in the way of HP/Torque it added, but my super calibrated ass measuring device says it "helped" lmao

Thanks for the pics and info lads. I'm not keen on loud exhausts anymore so just have a 1/2 hole drilled in the plug which is about right for me noise wise. I will probably leave well alone!

Well, it will definitely reduce engine heat, that alone is a Plus! Hopefully, it doesn't mess with the sensors too much, like causing erratic timing or a check engine light.
