In my work truck (2013 Freightliner M2), with the windows closed, HVAC fan on high, and radio OFF, I can't hear a siren until it's basically right on top of me.

I hope everyone realizes this whole "loud pipes..." slogan began as exactly that, a slogan! Probably a catchy line somebody came up with to sell tee shirts. It's a wonder Forest Gump wasn't given credit with coining it!!!

NO, loud pipes do not save lives. Alert, attentive, prepared riders save lives because everyone else is out to kill you everytime you leave the freaking driveway. ...or at least assume they are and you'll live longer.
