Default Staked Washer or Not?

Hello!
Quick question about OEM part #6860. Does this washer (1 inch ID x 2 inch OD x 1/8 inch) get staked to the primary or is it just dropped into the primary with the clutch adjustment assembly placed on top of it. My bike is a 1979 XL.
Thank you. Kim

The lock nut should hold that washer in place against the outer ramp assembly.

Makes sense to me too. My service manual doesn’t mention staking but seems I recalled a YouTube genius speaking about staking it in place. Appreciate the quick reply. I’m going forward as you stated. Thanks again.

Staking the washer is not necessary.

If you use my long nosed vise grip trick you will not drop any parts.

Grab the nut, with the grips tips against the cover to hold the mech in position.
After tightening the cover,
Run the adjusting screw in against the clutch before releasing the grips
