Repost (just to get the info on the newest page of the discussion):

UPDATE:

The weather looks like some showers overnight and into the early morning. Based on the current report, we are going to give guys a little extra time to arrive so you can be safe.

We are going to sit down for breakfast at 11 AM. We are still meeting tomorrow (Saturday).

So take your time and be safe on the roads. If the conditions aren't good for you, then don't risk it....just catch us next time.

The plan is, breakfast at 11AM tomorrow, Saturday the 13th.

Some of us are planning to ride together afterward, so please arrive with a full gas tank if you want to join us. We will end the ride at Ironheadquarters for a little bonfire and some chili.

Dress warm and see you tomorrow!

The Ironhead Sportster Gathering (also known as the "G.B.B.") is not a motorcycle show. There are no awards for grooviest paint or shiniest chrome, and there are no trailer queens. So when the weather forecast showed the possibility of rain in the morning, we pushed back our meet time by an hour in the hopes that it would prevent attendees from riding in a downpour on the way to breakfast. However, we are not afraid of wet roads, gray skies, and a little mist, so the Gathering was on!

If you are a nonbeliever in the Ironhead gods, then how can you explain this: When I awoke to rain hitting my skylight on Saturday morning, the forecast was for the rain to continue until noon. But as I tinkered around in the garage going over my final prep, the rain stopped, and although the skies looked ominous, I rode all the way to our meeting point rain-free. I stopped to take the photo below, and arrived dry at Orlando's to see how many other brave RIDERS would turn out despite wet roads and the possibility of a sprinkle.

[url=https://flic.kr/p/2aEAn9B]

Despite the weather, within minutes of my arrival at the diner we had four 1960's Ironheads in the parking lot. There were also two more Virginian Ironheads around the corner that made the trip to NJ all the way from south of the Mason-Dixon just for our event!

[url=https://flic.kr/p/2bYTkoj]

We headed inside for breakfast to get some warm food and hope that the roads would dry off a bit for the ride to follow

[url=https://flic.kr/p/2c4fkMZ]

By the time we headed back out to the bikes, we had two more Ironheads in the parking lot and a more optimistic sky

[url=https://flic.kr/p/2bYTjKf]

Here are the bikes in attendance:

PHL XLCH was back at the GBB on his amazingly original 1969 XLCH:

[url=https://flic.kr/p/2c4fj2V]

Ironhead Art was also back in attendance on his 1968 XLCH:

20181013_122044

Papa Magneto rode in on his 1967 XLCH:

[url=https://flic.kr/p/PVdLUE]

GBB Co-Founder 16ouncePBR attended on "Big Orange," his 1968 XLH:

20181013_122205

This is not PHL XLCH's bike again - this is actually Magneto Sportster's almost identical 1969 XLCH. This restored '69 is the "cousin bike" to PHL's original paint '69:

[url=https://flic.kr/p/PVdJqG]2

Papa Magneto's buddy Jeff showed up on this clean 1974:

[url=https://flic.kr/p/PVdH4d]

I feel very bad to say that I can't remember the name of the gentleman who brought this clean custom all the way up from Virginia just to eat eggs and take a little ride with us. Hopefully he will chime in, but here is his machine:

[url=https://flic.kr/p/2bYTfiQ]

Since the GBB is about RIDING, after everyone cleaned their plates and paid their tabs, we headed out, mounted our bikes, and RODE:

[url=https://flic.kr/p/2aEAh4X]

We rode approximately 50 miles through the back roads of Hunterdon County, NJ and Bucks County, PA. We crossed the mighty Delaware River and rode through the countryside. The more we RODE, the sunnier the skies became and dryer the roads:

[url=https://flic.kr/p/2aEAaTv]

[url=https://flic.kr/p/PVds29]

[url=https://flic.kr/p/2aXmuWq]

When people get out and RIDE their Ironheads, problems can happen. As we approached Ironheadquarters, we pulled over and discovered that one of our riders was losing air in his front tire fast.

[url=https://flic.kr/p/2c4f6bK]2

We were able to limp him in to a local safe house and pump up his tire. However, it was flat again with 30 seconds, so we had to stash his bike and head for Ironheadquarters. Good thing XLH's were built for riding double!

[url=https://flic.kr/p/PVdEqh]2

They call Sportsters "girl's bikes," but can you think of anything manlier than a bike that can haul TWO grown men?!?

[url=https://flic.kr/p/2c4fa94]

The rest of the crew rolled into Ironheadquarters behind our road captains:

[url=https://flic.kr/p/PVdFfJ]

[url=https://flic.kr/p/2bYTerj]

[url=https://flic.kr/p/2c4f4LF]

[url=https://flic.kr/p/Ni3tKc]

Back at Ironheadquarters, MagKenzie had been preparing lunch and a bonfire to warm us up after 50 miles of brisk autumn riding.

[url=https://flic.kr/p/Ni3trM]

[url=https://flic.kr/p/Ni3smk]

The menu of the day was steaming-hot homemade vegetarian chili and award-winning Pabst Blue Ribbon

[url=https://flic.kr/p/2aEAjNV]

[url=https://flic.kr/p/Ni3ufR]

Thanks to everyone who RODE out and helped to make another successful GBB. We also had one more rider I wanted to thank, forum member Sadsack, who drove all the way up from Virginia only to find out that he was having motor trouble and wasn't able to join us for the ride or picnic. And finally, big thanks to MagKenzie for putting on a great after-ride party for us.

There is no event in the world that can rival the GBB, even on a day when the weather isn't especially cooperative. If you didn't make it this time, no excuses - just make sure that your bike is ready for the Spring 2019 GBB. See you all then! Ride safe!

Thanks for reading,
-Magneto Sportster

Nice pics.
Ive grown to love the wide open desert of AZ, but those pics really make me yearn for the shady, twisty North Jersey and eastern PA back roads of my youth.
Thanks for sharing

I really enjoyed meeting Y'all this weekend, and hated that I missed the ride and party. I got the bike running well enough to ride out that way. I couldn't find Y'all, but I had a good ride trying to track you down! I rode down River Road to were the bridge was washed out and turned around. I was caught up in the ride and just plain missed the yellow house!
Someone on the forum here said most carb problems were electrical...and I think that's what my problem with running rich is. The bike quit several times returning to Flemington, and I trace that problem to the wiring connections at the breakers. I'm pretty sure I'm losing voltage to the ignition from this...I'll test that out with the volt meter in the morning.
