Default Help needed slip ons vs full system for new 48

Hey guys,
Years ago I was told by a great dyno tuner the best choice for an all round exhaust for a late model 48 was the good old S&S slip on mufflers, air cleaner and a good dyno tune.

That was a few years ago, and a lot of new exhausts have come out since then.... are the S&S slip ons still a great choice for best performance and sound, or should I be considering some others?
Thanks for any advice.

Best sound is subjective. For me, the best performance pipes are not the best sounding.

Looks like the slipons came pretty close to the Patriot pipe in the Hammer tests.

No S&S slips on tested, but the Rush slip ons with 1 3/4" baffles sure did perform well.

Looks like l might as well stick to the slip ons and also save a bit of coin at the same time.
Thanks

I just switched out my old slipons with a set of ScreaminEagle slipons and am really pleased. Nice rumble without being raspy and harsh

I have the Screaming Eagle slipons (maybe Gen 1?) that I put on back in 1992 and I love the sound and assume performance is good as well. I don't see any Hammer tests of the SE slipons, but have read that they are good.

Nah, SE are not an option. Thanks anyway.

S & S slipons are pretty loud to my ears. I went with S & S teardrop air cleaner, Khromewerks slipons & Power Vision tuner on my 883R. A noticeable power increase & it has a nice growl without being an anti social PITA. I've never had complaints about noise but you can put in aditional silencing, the baffles are a golf ball type

It's my understanding the older SEs sounded way better than the newer ones. Don't recall which performed better. I think the older as well.
As for slip on versus full, depends on the which ones most likely. I know THE V&H full has the stepped header pipe and will perform better than some of the slip ons anyway and sound better than most IMHO and look better too. That why I went with the full with the added cost.
Neither are the optimum performer tho.
IF I recall correctly, it's tough to beat the cycleshack slip ons for sound and performance where slip ons are concerned. Again, my aging memory thinks they were the best performance wise. Or maybe it was the khromewerks.
I know I liked the sound of the HP+ baffles in my drag pipes. What makes the V&H better is the step and depending on how I like the sound of them, I may put the 2" version of the HP+ baffle in them providing they perform as well.
The straight 1 3/4 pipe would cause a reversion issue with the huge overlap of the hammer 570 cams I just put in which is why I went with the stepped up V&H straightshots. Not not best performance wise but should do ok and sound/look good.
