I really like this larger tank now, but I always loved the 2.1 or 2.5 looks. Every sporty I ever owned had the peanut, until now. So the extra gallon, I'm old enough to appreciate.

Looking at it another way, I always appreciated a gas tank that was larger than my bladder. At least, road miles wise.
When you switch the petcock to reserve at 135 miles, is it because you want to, or you need to?
I have the 3.3 gallon tank and I automatically start looking for a gas station after I pass the 100 mile mark on my trip meter. I've never had to switch to reserve because I would actually like to know if I'm in the "reserve portion" of my tank.

1999 XL883C. I roll around 175 miles until reserve. Generally ad 3 gals at fill up. Normal miles per gallon about 60 mpg. Flat farm land, 45 to 50 mph easy rolling thru the forests and fields. One old, 170 lb grandpa.

I average 45 MPG unless I get stuck in nasty traffic.

Miles per tank is different for me because I lifted my tank so high in the front, can't get as much gas in.

Usually hit reserve between 85 and 100 miles depending on traffic, temperature and general willingness to "get on it"

After that I make a bee line for a gas station, have yet to run dry.

I've pushed it to 130 miles, no further.

Maybe one day I'll fill a fuel bottle and see how far I can push it

My 05 Roadster needs to go to reserve anywhere between 85 miles and 100 like Bklyngeezer said in the above post. That depends on weather I am riding it constantly from fill to reserve or if it sits a few days here and there before reserve while I ride the 05 Custom. I think I have gone to 130 on reserve before finding a station, but not sure exactly what the furthest may have been. Once I hit reserve I head straight for gas or I will forget and end up stranded.
