Loud pipes do wake people up at 2:00 AM, when the bars close and the rider is being an inconsiderate jackass.

That means that laws get passed that will eventually cause motorcycles to be outlawed.

And if there are no motorcycles on the road, then people won't be dying in motorcycle accidents.

Loud pipes will save lives then.

So, at 2:00 AM a drunk biker leaves the bar with loud pipes. At the same time ten drunk rednecks leave another bar in cages. Lack of fresh air in the faces of the drunken cage drivers pushes their drunken state into the state of emergency. One of these cagers decides (in her drunken state) that it's a great idea to veer off the road by crossing the oncoming lane to hit that nice comfortable looking tree she sees. Luckily for her that the drunk biker blasts past her with pipes blaring as he flips her off for trying to take him with her into that tree. His loud pipes save her drunken ass.

Some locals call in to the local cops about the loud pipes at 2:15 AM. Bikes get outlawed. That drunk redneck woman slams into the tree the next time she leaves the bar at 2:00 AM.

No good deed goes unpunished, first responders and their sirens wake up the entire neighborhood, the redneck dies and most likely that saves a life down the road that she would have ended on her next drunk outing.

So, what's the score? +1, -1, +1 = +1. A life was still saved in the end.

Yeah! And if the Martians land to conquer the earth and Slim Whitman songs don't cause their heads to explode, but loud exhausts do, then a few hundred bikes with Thunderheaders will be all that's necessary to repel the invaders!
Those loud pipes will save a lot of human lives!

They won't help out the Martians, though.

I believe they do speaking from experience. LED headlights are a must too. It cut the amount of people cutting in front of me drastically.

Anything that will get their attention has the potential to save a life. But the quality of sound systems, insulation & obliviousness of the drivers still has the potential to negate any noise or lighting levels we may able to achieve. The only real defense we have is to hyper aware of our surroundings & give them as much room as we can. Ultimately, what's between our ears is our best asset. Ride smart, make it home to ride again tomorrow.

I just turn off my hearing aids.

And it do help around here, I've had both stock mufflers and open and have noticed a difference in pull-outs/cutoffs
