Default Soccer question

Ok. So I have watched some of the World Cup games and they have been interesting. However, I do not understand why all the falling down and acting hurt is done. It seems, at least to me, like it is just an act quite frequently. There seems to be a lot of international members here and I assume many have a lot of experience with soccer, also some Americans I am sure , that could help me understand this aspect of the sport. The TV announcers don't have much to say about it. Just seems silly(to put it mildly) to me and greatly detracts from the game. TIA.

Not all is acting, some is, and some is just disgusting. The refs are suppose to give out warnings for obvious dives. At this world cup Neymar was probably the worse. As far as I'm concerned he only made a fool out of himself.

I was told by an avid soccer fan, that it is hard to get the refs attention for a penalty most times, so they have to make it obvious. That being said, even he admitted that they sometimes take it to far.

It's because they're wusses. Real men play rugby.

+1 Jim summed it up! There were a few genuine soccer tough guys, my favourite was West Ham's Billy Bonds, socks rolled down to his ankles no shin pads. He still played for the Hammers in his 40s! Billy had long hair & was never pictured stood still, when I was a kid I thought he had a strange horizontal haircut as his hair flew out behind him!
