You will see when you pull the sprocket cover of that is where the problem is. The leaks there are usually pretty obvious.
If it looks like it's coming from the M/S seal then pull the sprocket.
You may need a two arm puller to get the sprocket off.

In addition to this, if the sprocket can rotate/has too much clearance between the splines of the sprocket and shaft, you might want to consider a new sprocket.

I've just never done it, so a little uncertain but doing is how you learn I find. I found my manual and will look there as well. I saw on the forum that Ironmick just advises using a permex gasket.

Keep in mind that I am not nearly so expert on IronHeads as many of the other long term members. My intro from the top of the forum...

I believe that I was asked to moderate this forum because in the beginning I made a number of contributions to the Stickys and generally set a good example. My contributions have all been beginner level, technical topics - which as a retired professor has always been my main interest. My actual background is in traditional sciences, first chemistry and then computer science...

Understood IronMick. It was just an idea that seemed to have a good bit of merit.

I saw your site awhile back and really enjoyed looking through it, and I've been quite appreciative that you have continued teaching here...

I love those too rare occasions when an XLForum member comes by and we pass some time together. If any of you are ever in this area please contact me.

Mick is a great HD guy. He knows what he knows and has the gift of silence. Both valued talents.
