The current corporate management tells the dealers what to do. Corporate has computer programs that monitor anything the local dealer does! Corporate has made it difficult for dealers to survive, that's why some are closing. Dealers are told to not sell parts to anyone doing service work outside the dealership. The local dealer here survived on parts sales to other shops and the factory ended that by saying the customers should have all service work done in the dealership. Sales are down on new bikes, parts sales are down, the market is flooded with used bikes, and the factory made the dealers all build these fancy stores? Indian is kicking harleys ass at the racetrack? It is tough to be a dealer right now?

I'm not sure why large American Corporations treat everyone outside their organizations as enemies. They try to force their customers to buy what they want them to buy and how they buy it.

In Australia they simply told the largest distributor in Australia who was also the oldest outside of the USA that they were no longer a distributor, but just another dealer.

So a once thriving business is now just another multi brand bike shop. They sell more BMW's now than Harley's. And why wouldn't they ? Margins are higher for them on the Bee M's. And long time customers are left in no doubt as to what the "new" bike shop thinks about HD.

HD wants to own the entire supply chain right down to the customer. So now you have an organization similar to a Government department trying to sell me product. With about the same kind of feeling I get from a Government department.

No matter, HD no longer make a product I would buy.

I think they have seriously misunderstood not just the market, but the entire industry.

It's funny, but once upon a time HD had a brand loyalty unequaled in the entire world.

I mean, can you imagine customers having "Microsoft" or "Coco-Cola" tattooed on their body ?

Would also be interesting to see how the number of new "HD" tattoo's has fallen.

This is one of my older manuals from the 80’s. Years before websites, when you could call and request parts and they would actually have them.
I knew just how long the trip was from door to door on each and their operating hrs. At that time the rumors were running around that the HD dealers would have to update their shops to the super boutiques they are today or lose their franchise.
Some East coasters should recognize most of them, wonder how many are still around.
**Anyone recognize a particular forum members shop on this list??***

Had you defaced the Koran (Qoran ? Qouran ? Qoran ?, Whatever) in such a manner you would now be the subject of a fatwife. (Fhatwah ? Fatwa ? Whatever)

My early teachers intilled in me the need for total respect for any book to the point I can hardly bring myself to even write my name (in tiny letters) inside one.

I did buy one someone else defiled. Leo someone. Might have a picture somewhere.

Definitely spared from the fatwife. At 50+ she definitely rivals some of Stairman and Trainman’s best candidates!

Sorry, I think it's sideways.

And he underlined all the common parts he needed to order regularly. Like crancase sets etc.

But here's my "pristine" FSM abd after all these years apart from a couple notations about clearances etc, undefiled. If a little tattered.

(I work from a new one now - just couldn't bring myself to toss the old one)

I have a mate who has 10 of them.

They are something I wanted for many years now. But just can't justify the money for a static display bike.
