Default Dirt bikes...

It’s that time of year, so we raised the suspension on the ‘05 CRF450 and put the enduro wheels back in

Here’s the lowered rear link in flat track position

The visible bolt hole is for the enduro position

Meanwhile I was offered this, and couldn’t say no.. a bike I’d always fancied but always passed me by, somehow

There was a set of enduro wheels and tyres included, so that’s a job for next weekend..

Very cool! I miss my old Honda XR500. I had a lot of fun with that in the Rocky Mountains when I lived just outside Denver, CO.

I always fancied a XT500, TT500, Honda XL350 or something similar. A British “big single” without the problems they tend to have. XT are going “silly money” at the moment so I thought if i didn’t buy it, for what it was offered at, I would only pay more in future.

That one is a TT500 with the 6v direct lighting, shades of the old Tiger Cub! It has a UK registration too.

But, redrilling the rear link like that lowers the bike 3” or so at the back, and that’s too much to just push the tubes through the yokes to compensate. The various clearances around the top yoke and handlebars don’t allow it, and the bike would be dangerous - think “getting a faceful of handlebars in a tumble” and you’ll see why.

So lowering the bike like that is a bit “all or nothing”. It’s great for flat track, and might be nice as as a sporting roadster, but the CRF series aren’t large machines overall.

Often fancied a dirt bike but never got round to it. Most of the stuff I liked (XT 500, DT 175) now go for mad money as 45 Brit said. Was at Knott End bike meet in the summer checking out a DT175 when the owner said his mate had one for sale & was parked further along. He wanted £3000! He sold it, but not to me!
