well, i do have the fsm info in the library
remember, i am talking bearing, not assy!
when you take that assy mass and spin it up, like a gyroscope, it will run true. when you get into trouble is when you have miss-alignment and imbalance. even the finest bearing will falter.
i do not take stock in grabbing the basket and wobbling it, tain't telling you a thing!
when hd engineered the assy, they duly noted the tolerance and ran with it. could you build a better mouse trap?, well sure!
remember, hd engineered it to just work with the cheapest cost. nothing new under the sun!

To recap:

• We had already sought the advice of SKF engineers.
• We had already suggested specific bearings and modifications to limit play.
• HD don't give tolerances on the basket play that you called for.
• If it was just a simple gyroscopic system then it wouldn't make contact with the stator but evidently it does.
• We do have to take the assembly into account because it is that assembly that makes contact with the stator, as cumulative wear allows it to precess.
• Measuring the rock on the clutch basket tells us if the magnets can make contact with the stator. That is precisely what we are helping this guy avoid. It tells us plenty.
