Ironhead Where is the oil plug on the cases? 77xlh

Dont want to remove it, just looking around under there while replacing oil lines and I dont even see a plug. I see the the big hexagon one with a nylon washer that I believe is for the primary. But no oil plug, just curious.

Mine is left of centre under the foot peg. A honking big plug. The bike in question is a 73xlh.

Thats about where the what I believe transmission plug is. Is actually the oil plug? Never pulled any plug out of pure fear of consequence. Usually pull the whole primary cover when changing its oil. Not sure if thats correct. Thing is I do only see one plug, rather honking but not honking big.

Looking at the "Ironhead oil change 101" thread the poster does show thats the transmission plug which is the one I'm looking at, so I suppose that's that. Hm just dont see any other plug on the bottom of the case.

Interesting, after reading about it I found 77 and later cases didnt have the same crankcase plug. Little different, theres a small threaded thing near the oil pump.

The “drain plug” on the bottom of the case is either a pressed or threaded plug that caps the oil scavenging rifling hole. 51)
The MoCo drilled from the bottom of the case to the horizontal oil passage in the gearcase.
This connects the crankcase sump oil to the scavenge port of the oil pump and the hole is plugged on the bottom.
Some see this plug as a sump drain location while others view it as a permanent plug.

From inside the case with the plug removed from the scavenge passage;
In the second pic below, you can see that the threads, from the tap, have been machined farther up into this hole.
This is the oil passage from the sump to the scavenge pump.
Oil from cylinder drains, crankpin, pushrods and cam chest that collects in the sump is fed to the pump by crankcase pressure and pump suction through this hole.

Cool I dont have a plug to be messed with, not gonna touch the thing not gonna worry about it. Only plug I have is the transmission/primary which is good to know so now I can drain without removing the whole cover out of superstition.
