As far as I know, tubeless tires can run at higher speeds, use less air pressure when needed, and run cooler. They can be plugged without removing them from the bike. They do Blow-out, sometimes causing you to destroy the rim trying to slow down. Tubed tires have a different bead on the tire making it easier to repair the inner-tube and are mostly used on laced wheels and you need specific cast wheels for a tube to work in them. If you use a tube in a tubeless tire, make sure the tire is tube compatible. Those little ribs inside the tire carcass are for strength but will cause friction on a tube.

I think that is good summary Toejam.

To the original poster, it is also worth checking what sort of rim your spoked wheel have.
Not all rim types are designed for tubeless.

True but I haven't seen spoked rims sans shoulders in a long time.

Agreed but bear in mind the demographic on here - many of us ride old Harleys (with pride).
It's the safety ridge or angle of the shoulder that seems to determine if the rim is safe for tubeless.
So it's safest to check the wheels for suitability if you are not sure. Just saying.
