are you sure you need to replace the seats?, if you were able to remove the pushrods without prying their fine. unless their cracked or something
any pics of those heads?

Well gentlemen, I got the bike running yesterday and what a difference a valve job makes. Those valve springs must have been broken for a long time as the bike hasn't run this good in years literally. The engine sounds healthy and has a very nice idle. It cruises nicely at 1800 RPM too. Amazing the difference! Here's what was done to the heads:
Seats remachined
Int. & Ex. Guides replaced with Kibble & White guides
Rowe Pro exhaust valves
Kibble & White intake valves
Sifton valve spring kit including upper and lower valve springs, retainers and keepers
Head gaskets and rocker box gaskes - all push rod tube corks replaced.

I flushed out the oil cooler and replace the lines. Flushed the oil tank and replaced oil and filter. As I said the bike has never run so good.

Freedom Wheels & Machine in Gilcrest, Oregon did the macine work and treated me very fairly. This guy had a fully equpt machine shop with new machines. A real old school Harley Machinist.

Thank you all for all you suggestions and help. I so appreciated it and now I have a great running Sportster again.

On the Torque adapter. Well I bought the standard 2" "torque adapter" and it was just too short to work. What I ended up doing was take a 7/16 universal socket in 3/8 drive and I was able to "torque" those two head bolts that are the issue. I like the idea of welding a 1/2 inch drive to a box end wrench so I could finally get on it. But at anyrate I got it done and it's running.

Great advice at this time of year and especially with a "new" and more powerful motorcycle. It's fun to ride now as it really had some deep pull now. :-)
