Tank flush
I just acquired 1 95 XLH 883 with 4500 miles, that has been sitting in a garage somewhere for quite a while I think. I pulled the petcock to check it, and it looks pretty good, with some, but not a lot of gunk on the screen. I dumped out what gas was in it, maybe half a gallon, and again some, but not a lot of specks washed out with the gas into a new aluminum roaster pan. However, the gas was a little more yellow than I'd have liked. No idea how old it is.
From what little I can see inside the tank, it doesn't look too bad, and whatever crud was collected around the filler hole was wiped away with vinegar and Q-tips.
So, while I have the bike apart, I'd like to give the tank a cursory flush for good measure in case there is some light surface rust in there. What do you guys recommend? I have used vinegar before, but some say that will make it flash rust. I don't think I need to go the chain shaking route.

Thank you. I think this is the answer I was looking for. I've gotten a better look inside the tank, and I don't think it is bad at all, it still looks pretty battleship grey. So I think a good kerosene flush will do me.
