Ironmick one quick question, on the right brake side is the drilled hole on the engine mount offset enough to fit with the exhaust?

Yes.

Measuring for that hole took the most time. It is an awkward place to measure. I had to take into account the odd shape of the front of the right side case and gearcase cover, as well as the exhaust pipe.

After i measured for the right side i made the left side exactly the same.

I have a small drill press in my shop at home, but i had those 1" holes drilled at a machine shop. That thick steel with that large bit require a bigger drill press.

All front exhaust pipes do not have the same bends. Mine were OEM pipes with crossover. It might be a good idea to fabricate a mount from thick cardboard, cut the hole, and check to see if it is good.

Welcome! to the IronHead forum.

Default Modified 1980 forward controls

Hey Mick, I have a set of forward controls from an 05 custom sportster. can they also be modified to fit my 1908 Ironhead?

Respectfully,
Joe Rouse

The ones that i fit were 1986 to 2003. I am not familiar with 2005. It might be close, similar or far different ??? Look over the pics and see what you think.

I did not modify the parts much; mostly i modified the bike parts so the controls would fit.

The most significant part of the ordeal was drilling a 1" diameter hole in the 1/8" thick front lower engine mount plates. The measuring and drilling precision had to be done very very carefully. I had a machine shop do the drilling. Next was measuring and manufacturing the spacers. Also tedious requiring precision measuring machine shop work. The measuring was difficult because of the location on the bike.

Overall it was quite expensive.
